Work Health and Safety

RLC aims to:

  • provide a healthy and safe workplace for our employees, contractors, visitors, clients and the wider community;
  • maintain a safe working culture within RLC;
  • integrate Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) considerations into all of our business operations.

Our WHS policy is to:

  • ensure that all reasonable steps and measures are taken to safeguard the health and safety of Workers while at our workplace;
  • ensure that the health and safety of members of the public or visitors to our workplace is protected as far as reasonably possible.

To implement our WHS policy we have established a Mines Safety Management System (MSMS) under which RLC will:

  • undertake risk management activities to adequately manage risk to Workers in the work environment; including reviews of changes to work methods and practices;
  • document a MSMS for each of our mine sites setting out how our WHS policy is to be applied to work at that mine site
  • seek continuous improvement of each MSMS to enhance our WHS performance;
  • both comply with, and keep abreast of all relevant legislation, standards and other requirements which apply to mining operations of RLC;
  • provide adequate human, financial and technological resources to facilitate the fulfilment of WHS responsibilities and our WHS policy;
  • seek to ensure that all plant, equipment and substances are safe and without risk to health or safety when used in accordance with standard operating procedures;
  • maintain the safety of systems of work, work premises and work environments, including maintaining systems to adequately manage emergency response;
  • have every incident immediately reported and objectively and systematically investigated to identify all causes and contributing factors, and taking all reasonable steps to have corrective and preventative actions implemented in a timely manner to reduce the likelihood of re-occurrence;
  • promote WHS performance by actively supporting health and safety discussions during regular meetings;
  • and consulting with its employees to ensure their commitment to the WHS policy.

To better achieve our aim of a safe working culture in RLC, management at all levels are required to:

  • champion WHS by demonstrating leadership and coaching the implementation of WHS processes and initiatives;
  • communicate our WHS policy to all employees, contractors and visitors and involve them in its
    implementation;
  • maintain compliance with our WHS policy and each MSMS and regularly conduct audits and workplace inspections to verify compliance;
  • regularly review and evaluate our WHS policy and each MSMS.
